Riverside Avondale Preservation Society

Fire Station 10 participates in the Riverside-Avondale Preservation Society’s Home Tour.
The Riverside Avondale area is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is designated by the City of Jacksonville as a local historic district.
Firefighters from Station 10 put a lot of extra effort into maintaining the station to be a part of the tour.

Muscular Dystrophy Association

Firefighters from Station 10 are extremely supportive of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), an organization dedicated to combating neuromuscular diseases in children.
Members from Station 10 took to the streets in October of 2006 and participated in the Jacksonville Firefighters 2006 “Fill the Boot Drive.”  Station 10 managed to collect over $5,800 in just a few short hours.
Overall, Jacksonville Firefighters raised over $120,000 for MDA during the 2006 Boot Drive.

aSchool Tours

Station 10 is also very active with local elementary schools.  Schools from as far away as St. John’s County come to Station 10 to participate in tours of the station.
Upon arrival at Station 10, children watch a fire safety video.  They are given a tour of the station.  Firefighters will slide the pole and let the children climb in the fire trucks.  We even have a firefighter, usually the rookie, dress in his firefighting gear for the children.  Many topics, such as dialing 911 and Stop, Drop, and Roll are discussed.  If the weather is nice, each child will get to use the fire hose to shoot water.  All visiting children leave with a little red fire hat as well.

bHurricane Aide

Members from Station 10 also participated in Hurricane Relief Efforts.  Over a ton of food was collected at the Station for hurricane victims.
Several members from Station 10 were part of a JFRD Strike Team that arrived in Gulfport Mississippi only hours after Katrina made landfall.
Three more members from Station 10 were assigned to a special task force in Baton Rouge that assisted firefighters from New Orleans and the surrounding region who lost everything.

Dennis, now retired from Station 10, cycled from Seattle to Cape Canaveral to raise awareness for blood, organ, tissue, and marrow donations. Station 10 met Chief Dennis and his international bike team at the southern tip of Jacksonville and brought him home to Riverside.
